Indian food is perhaps my personal favorite food of all. It's flavourful, affordable and never boring. Montreal has many gems to offer for those who love Indian cuisine.
Bombay Mahal 1001 Rue Jean-Talon Ouest
Like the hundred Indian restaurants that surround it, Bombay Mahal is an authentic, affordable option. However, after sampling many of its neighbouring restaurants, there is something about it that always makes it memorable. BYOW option is another plus!

Ganges 6079 Sherbrooke St WThis NDG restaurant is a bit out of the way, but totally worth the trek. Their spicy dishes are actually spicy as promised which is always a huge plus. The menu offers all the classic favorites and they are all impressive and done right. Quality is always consistent and the sarcastic and friendly waiters are just right.

Pushap Sweets 5195 Rue ParePushap Restaurant is a truly authentic experience. Although there is vast menu available, I suggest ordering a thali- or plate of the day. The plates are under $6 and offer you a whole vast tray of food. The restaurant is vegetarian but even the most carnivorous eaters will forget about that when they sample the amazing chickpea curries and vegetables. Everything here is incredibly cheap and you can dine for under $10 including dessert and a drink. A bit out of the way, Pushap Sweets is the definition of "hidden gem."

Le Taj 2077 Stanley St
Le Taj is unlike most Indian restaurants in Montreal- it is gorgeous and well decorated with prices higher than you're used to. However, their quality delivers and still provides a more upscale authentic Indian food experience. Le Taj also offers a very popular lunch buffet option everyday for those wishing to try out the restaurant.
